🇨🇦 We are proud to be a Canadian company, founded and operated in beautiful British Columbia since 2005. Our love for tea drives us to bring you the finest blends sourced with care and crafted with passion. 🇨🇦

After a long winter, it’s natural to crave a sense of lightness — to want to feel refreshed, clearer, and a little more in tune with our bodies again.

Here’s the part that often gets lost in the conversation — our bodies already have a built-in detox system. The liver, kidneys, digestive tract, and lymphatic system work around the clock to process, filter, and eliminate what we don’t need.

However, what does matter is how we support these systems in our everyday routines — and that’s where tea has quietly played a role for centuries.

When we think of “spring support” teas, many of us naturally reach for familiar options — organic dandelion root, organic stinging nettle, organic green yerba mate, organic matcha, or specially crafted organic detox blends. These are wonderful in their own ways and have long traditions behind them.

But what if we told you that oolong tea deserves a place in the spotlight this spring, too?

Oolong tea is often overlooked, rarely getting the attention it deserves. It’s sometimes misunderstood as too complex for only seasoned tea drinkers or simply labelled as a “weight loss tea.” In reality, oolong is one of the most balanced and versatile teas available — gentle enough for daily enjoyment, yet deeply satisfying.

What is Oolong Tea?

Oolong tea comes from the same plant as green and black tea — Camellia sinensis —, but it is crafted differently. The leaves are partially oxidized, placing oolong somewhere between green and black tea in both flavour and character.

Traditionally produced in regions of China and Taiwan, oolong teas can range from light and floral to rich and toasty, depending on how they are processed. This craftsmanship is what gives oolong its remarkable diversity and depth.

At Tea Desire, we carefully select our oolongs from China and Taiwan, choosing styles that highlight this beautiful spectrum — from fresh and fragrant to smooth and more developed.

As a partially oxidized tea, oolong naturally sits in the middle: not as grassy as many green teas, not as bold as black teas. This balance makes it especially well-suited for spring — a season of transition, renewal, and gentle recalibration.

Supporting Digestion & Balance

Oolong tea has traditionally been enjoyed after meals, and for good reason. Many tea drinkers appreciate how it feels settling and clarifying — never heavy, never overwhelming.

Its natural polyphenols and antioxidants support overall wellness, and its moderate caffeine content offers a gentle lift without the sharp edges of stronger stimulants.

Rather than pushing the body in one direction, oolong seems to work with it — supporting digestion, circulation, and metabolic balance in a steady, everyday way.

When we think about supporting the body’s detox systems, this is key. The liver and digestive system function best when they are not overburdened. Choosing balanced foods and beverages — and staying hydrated — allows these built-in systems to function as they are designed.

Oolong tea fits beautifully into this philosophy: not a cleanse, not a quick fix — simply a supportive companion. Perhaps it’s time to give this underrated tea another look.

Which Oolong is Right for You?

If you’re new to oolong tea, the variety can feel surprising — but that’s part of its charm. Oolong is not just one flavour profile. Our oolong teas range from light and floral to smooth and richer, more developed.

Here’s how we would categorize our Oolong teas:

🌸 Light & Floral
If you enjoy green tea, start with a
lighter, greener oolong.
These tend to be floral, fresh, and softly creamy with a clean finish. They’re beautiful for spring mornings and feel bright yet balanced.

Oolong Formosa Jade Dong Ding
One of the best oolong teas Taiwan has to offer. A tender oxidized tea with a juicy, sweet flavour and a brilliant, jade-green cup. This tea has a long and famous history.

Oolong China Ti Kuan Yin
Named after the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin. The tea is also known as 'Iron Buddha' or  'Iron Goddess Oolong'. Ti Kuan Yin is perhaps the Fujian Province's most famous oolong tea, with its flowery fragrance reminiscent of orchids.

🌿
Smooth & Balanced

medium-oxidized oolong. These have more body than green tea but remain smooth and approachable. You may notice notes of honey, orchid, or gentle fruit.

Oolong China Organic

🍂
Richer & More Developed

If you love black tea or richer flavours, explore a richer and more developed oolongThese teas have warmth and depth — sometimes with a toasty aroma — while still maintaining oolong’s signature smoothness. Perfect for cooler spring evenings  when you want something grounding but not heavy.

China Oolong
Semi-oxidized, fine aromatic oolong tea from China with red-gold and uneven, coarse leaves.
