There’s something about summer that makes getting together with family and friends feel extra special. So, why not turn an ordinary summer afternoon into a little celebration? Invite a few favourite people, brew some lovely tea, add a few simple treats, and voilà—you’ve got yourself a Summer Tea Party!

Let's start with a Planning Checklist:

Once you’ve picked a theme—whether it’s a Get-Together or simply Summertime!—set your guest list, choose the perfect spot (how about the backyard?), and round up a few extra hands to help. Then comes the most exciting part: planning the menu!

Have fun mixing and matching toppings, spreads, and different types of bread. With a little creativity, you can turn the same base into two, three, or even four delicious treats. Egg salad is a perfect example!

Start with your favourite basic egg salad recipe, then divide it into three bowls and turn each one into a different little tea-party treat:

Egg Salad on Baguette — egg salad with fresh tomato and red onion, served on baguette with spinach or lettuce.

Spicy Egg Salad on Pumpernickel — egg salad with a little heat, layered with avocado on pumpernickel triangles and finished with fresh dill.

Smoky Ham & Egg Sandwich — egg salad with pickle relish and smoked ham, finished with a delicate dusting of Lapsang Souchong.

Smoky Ham & Egg Sandwich Recipe

Give the second bowl of egg salad a savoury twist with tangy pickle relish and smoked ham, then finish with a delicate dusting of Lapsang Souchong for an unexpected hint of smokiness.

Ingredients

  • 1 bowl of prepared egg salad
  • 4 slices smoked ham
  • 2 tablespoons pickle relish
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices of bread
  • Finely ground Lapsang Souchong, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Build the sandwich. Spread the pickle relish evenly over each slice of bread.
  2. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of egg salad onto two of the bread slices and spread evenly.
  3. Place one slice of smoked ham over the egg salad.
  4. Add the Lapsang Souchong. Using a fine-mesh tea strainer, lightly dust a small amount of finely ground Lapsang Souchong over the ham. A little goes a long way—the goal is a subtle smoky note, not an overpowering tea flavour.
  5. Top with a lettuce leaf and cover with the remaining slices of bread.
  6. Cut each sandwich into smaller rectangles, triangles, or any shape you like.

Tea Tip: Lapsang Souchong is a smoky black tea with a distinctive campfire-like character. Used as a light finishing dust, it adds an unexpected savoury depth to this creamy egg and smoked ham sandwich.

And of course, what's a Summer Tea Party without something sweet? Add a few favourite cookies, a slice of cake, or another sweet bite to complete your table.

And of Course, Tea!

It’s a Tea Party, after all—so let’s bring on the tea!

For something bright, refreshing, and wonderfully summery, serve a sparkling iced tea made with one of our fruit infusions, such as Sansangria.

For a more traditional touch, a classic hot cup of our Black Tea Rose Earl Grey, Black Currant Tea served in a delicate teacup, is both comforting and perfectly fitting for a tea party.

And if you're feeling adventurous, why not bring a little smoky character to the table with Lapsang Souchong? Brew it over ice with a touch of maple syrup and club soda for a surprisingly refreshing summer drink.

Sparkling Sansangria — Two Ways

For a refreshing summer drink, Sansangria is delicious simply topped with sparkling mineral water—or, for an adult version, with chilled Prosecco.

Virgin

  1. Prepare Sansangria Fruit Infusion according to the package instructions.
  2. Fill a glass with ice cubes.
  3. Pour the prepared Sansangria over the ice until the glass is about half full.
  4. Top with chilled sparkling mineral water.
  5. Garnish with an orange wedge and serve.

With Prosecco

  2. Fill a glass with ice cubes.
  3. Pour the prepared Sansangria over the ice until the glass is about half full.
  4. Top with chilled Prosecco.
  5. Garnish with an orange wedge and serve.

And that's it! Now comes the really fun part—decorate your table according to your chosen theme, bring out the chairs and tables, arrange your treats, pour the tea, and invite your guests to join you.
